Henry Conser, third son of Conrad Conser, was born as (Johann) Heinrich Gantzert on the family farm in Frederick Twp., Old Philadelphia Co., now Montgomery, on October 18, 1753, and was baptized in Falkner's Swamp Lutheran Church at New Hanover, Pa., on November 18, 1753. He never used the name Johann as his next older brother was named Johannes. He moved with his family to Newberry Twp., York Co., Pa., across the Susquehanna River from Middletown, Pa., in the lade 1760's. He evidently took over the family farm in Newberry Twp. when his father dies in 1776 as Young's Historical and Genealogical History of York Co., Pa., on pg 253 vol 22 states that he was fined three pounds and ten shillings for absenting himself without leave from the York Co., Pa., Militia. Legatees: David, my son; Molly Row, may dau.; John Conser, son; Catherine Henney, my dau & wife on Frederick; Jacob Gonser, David Brown. Mentions that Mathias Holler lives on some of testator's land. Executors nominated: Jacob Gonser, son; David Gonser, son. Signed 19 Dec 1820, proved during Feb. term 1937 which opened on the 27th. WhiteWR2 George and Henry Conser (Gauntzer) who lived in Newberry Twp., York Co., Pa., were called into service in the York Co., Militia in 1778. Instead of reporting for duty at Yorktown, now York, many miles away, they crossed the Susquehanna River and joined the Lancaster Co. Militia at Middletown where many of their friends and relatives lived. HoranJP, p 5.
